We have an idea for a new program, and based on demand, we may make it. It’s a 4chan Thread Watcher. What it will do is download the images and text of a thread when you aren’t around to keep looking at it. The idea for this program was inspired when an Ever17 thread died in /a/ WHILE I was downloading the images! I had an idea to never let this happen again…

Pretty cool, eh? (It would be cooler if it was actually functional…) Anyway, the intended result is a page on your local drive that looks the same as the reply page of the thread.

No, not really. It will download all the pictures in the thread once, yes, but only once. It will check for and only download the new ones that appear after people post replies, after the initial download. So, the only bandwidth it will use while checking for updates is downloading the 25kb HTML file. It will also contain anti-abuse protection to prevent hammering or intentional leeching. It will only be allowed to check for replies based on a set time (appropriate for the cycles of each board). It will also have a unique User-Agent (so it can be identified on 4chan’s server)
